Learn how to stay out of Court - unless you want to be there.

Part 1 will explore the confidential nature of the therapeutic relationship and how that role conflicts with
the objective and unbiased role of the expert witness. We will look at the variety of ways
therapists make unintentional errors in their well meaning efforts to help their clients that result in ethics violations.
We will also look at what to do if you receive a subpoena, court order, or notice of a deposition.
We will do "post mortems" on cases that the attendees have experienced, and have them
provide me with information about it a few months in advance so that I can research their state licensing rules.
Our presenter, Dr. Berman, has offered to review the specific state laws governing each mental health discipline
represented on the cruise. He wants to make the training relevant to each attendee and not just a generic presentation. Also, feel free to contact him directly with questions or topics you would like to have covered. WBBATCFI@aol.com
Part 2 will be all court related, starting from what to wear, what to bring to court, how to write a report, all the way to dirty tricks attorneys use in cross examination. We plan to conduct several mock trials and have fun with the witnesses while the rest of the group serves as the jury. We will involve a trial lawyer who will cross-examine witnesses and give you a real taste of going to court. Bill has spoken at and also attended such joint conferences in the past. It makes for great group dynamics (especially doing role reversals) during mock trials.
